Voices in eMobility - Stephen Robinson and Hyperion's role in shaping the future of eMobility

Welcome to the first installment of ‘Voices of eMobility’, a series where we sit down with leaders and innovators shaping the future of eMobility. Today, we feature Stephen Robinson, Managing Partner of EV and Future Mobility at Hyperion. Stephen has been instrumental in helping companies scale by finding the right leadership talent, building teams that will lead the charge toward a cleaner, greener future.

Stephen’s journey into eMobility - a personal quest for clean air

Stephen’s career took an unforeseen turn back in 2016 when he returned from a two year secondment in Saudi Arabia, leaving behind a career in oil & gas recruitment, to begin his journey into the world of Cleantech - specifically eMobility. He started managing an automotive practice, working on projects in the "New Automotive" division with companies like Arrival, Lotus, and the Aston Martin/Red Bull Advanced Technologies Valkyrie project. This experience opened his eyes to the potential of electric vehicles in decarbonizing transport, igniting his passion for sustainability.

Stephen’s commitment to a cleaner future became deeply personal when his young son, who suffers from chronic asthma, saw significant health improvements after the family moved from Liverpool to the rural countryside of Ormskirk. The cleaner air in this small, historic town has made a tangible difference in his son’s health, highlighting Stephen's personal and professional mission to fight for "the right to clean air."

"I’ve noticed the difference in my son’s breathing... living in a place with cleaner air has improved his asthma management significantly," Stephen shares. This personal experience continues to fuel his dedication to sustainability and eMobility, reminding us of the human side of this industry.

Hyperion’s role in eMobility

At Hyperion, Stephen and his team provide Cleantech and eMobility companies with the leadership they need to scale. They work closely with founders to identify key strategic roles that are critical to a company’s growth.

"We work early on with founders... to help them find key strategic, critical positions that will enable their growth, whether that is a Head of Department, Director, VP, CxO, Board member or NED.’

By leveraging a global talent network, Hyperion ensures that companies can meet both operational and strategic challenges.

The people driving eMobility forward

At the heart of the eMobility revolution are the people - leaders, innovators, and specialists—who drive progress. These individuals bring both expertise and passion, ensuring that the industry can scale effectively. As Stephen notes:
“We help companies fill key strategic critical positions that will enable their growth... it’s helping businesses appoint the leaders in the right seats.”

In the eMobility sector, securing visionary leaders who understand both the technical challenges and the greater mission of sustainability is vital. At Nexxt Industry, we see how critical it is for companies to not only have the right leadership but also to communicate their value effectively. Marketing the work of these talented individuals is just as important as the technological advancements they bring to the table.

The importance of marketing experience

In parallel with leadership, marketing plays a vital role in helping eMobility companies succeed. Many startups are heavily focused on product development but often need guidance when it comes to visibility and market positioning. Stephen highlighted how some companies struggle with this aspect:

Sometimes, founders have a great product, but they don't know how to market it... there's a market there, but they don't know where to begin... they need help…and whilst we can be an effective partner as a Headhunter, we also add tremendous value as storytellers - sharing their growth potential with the candidates we engage in the market, convincing them to join their mission”

This is where Nexxt Industry can step in to help companies tell their stories and expand their reach. At Nexxt, we act as an extension of your team, helping boost your brand’s visibility while ensuring you have marketing leadership at every stage of growth.

We also offer fractional Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) services, ensuring companies have strategic marketing leadership, even if they don’t yet have an in-house CMO. As businesses grow, this fractional position can evolve into a permanent role, and Hyperion can assist in finding the right long-term candidate.

Collaborative impact

Hyperion and Nexxt Industry represent two sides of the same coin: leadership and visibility. Together, they help eMobility companies navigate the complexities of scaling while maintaining their mission to create a more sustainable future.

“For us, it’s about doing it for a greater meaning, not just because that’s where the money is,” Stephen explains.

This shared goal of making a lasting impact on the environment ties both companies’ work together, demonstrating how critical both leadership and marketing are for growth.

At Nexxt Industry, we believe that collaboration is key to the success of the eMobility sector. Companies like Hyperion and ours, along with other players in the industry, must work together to build a cleaner, more sustainable future. We are all in this together, and our strengths - whether in leadership, marketing, innovation or whatever they may be - can complement each other to drive real growth. By supporting one another, we ensure that the eMobility revolution continues to develop, benefiting both the planet and future generations.
